Mario Kart World Mirror Mode Tied to Mario 64 Easter Egg

Mario Kart World enthusiasts have uncovered a method to swiftly navigate the game's open world using Mirror Mode—and accessing it involves a clever nod to a classic Nintendo platformer.

Recall traveling through the paintings in Princess Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64? A similar technique lets you enter Mario Kart World's Mirror Mode in Free Roam by driving over and ascending the same royal rooftop.

Be advised: you must first unlock Mario Kart World's primary Mirror Mode for this secret to work. IGN verified that without Mirror Mode unlocked, this approach remains inactive until the prerequisite is met.

If you haven't already, unlock Mirror Mode for Grand Prix and Knockout Tour by completing all cups on 150cc and finishing several P-Switches, Peach Medallions, and Question Panels in Free Roam.

Once Mirror Mode is unlocked, you can proceed to discover the secret for exploring Free Roam in Mirror Mode as well.

Load the central Princess Stadium course in Free Roam (use Y on the world map to fast travel there) and veer off the ascending road with the castle to your right. Land on the expansive red roof beneath you, then drive toward the castle's main turret. Ahead lies a large stained glass window depicting Princess Peach—you'll know what to do next.

Driving through the window creates a ripple reminiscent of Mario 64's paintings, transporting you to a mirrored version of Mario Kart World's environment. Voilà! Even your world map is flipped.
