NetEase Games is making significant changes to the Marvel Rivals post-launch roadmap, aiming to shorten its seasons and introduce at least one new hero every month. This strategic shift is designed to maintain and enhance the live service momentum with its dedicated player base.

The overhaul was hinted at during the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, which provided a 15-minute deep dive into the upcoming content. Season 2, set to launch on April 11, will introduce a new Vanguard hero, Emma Frost, at the outset. Mid-season, players can look forward to the arrival of Ultron, with his class details to be unveiled closer to his release. Both heroes are expected to shake up the gameplay with their unique abilities. However, the real transformation in how heroes impact matches will commence in Season 3.

Marvel Rivals Season 3, which does not yet have a confirmed release date, will see seasons shortened from three months to two. This change will allow for faster major content updates while still adhering to the commitment of releasing at least one new hero every half-season. After Emma Frost's launch next week, players will only wait a month and a half for Ultron, with subsequent hero releases coming even quicker.

In the Dev Vision video, Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen shared insights into the team's ongoing efforts to keep the game engaging. "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver fun and engaging experiences for you all," Chen stated. He acknowledged the pressure from social media feedback to keep the game as thrilling as it was at launch in December. "To a certain extent, we agree," he added, emphasizing the team's commitment to maintaining player excitement.

Chen further elaborated on NetEase's vision to fulfill fans' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes, which includes introducing new modes and a diverse roster of characters. Following extensive internal discussions and evaluations, NetEase plans to adjust its systems to handle the increased content flow. More details on how these changes will impact players will be shared before Season 3's launch.

Just hours ago, NetEase pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 2, announcing a shift from the current vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This change promises new outfits, maps, and characters, with more information expected in the coming weeks.

Since its launch in December, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players within three days. The game was released across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam, the launch saw an impressive peak of 480,990 concurrent players, and Season 1 in January further boosted this to 644,269, making it the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform.

Despite a recent decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains a top contender on Steam. The upcoming Season 2 and the planned changes for Season 3 are anticipated to reinvigorate the player base.
