Marvel Cinematic Universe star Wyatt Russell, known for his role as U.S. Agent, is determined to silence the skeptics of the upcoming film Thunderbolts. In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Russell shared that he and his co-stars are motivated to transform any negative perceptions about the movie into something extraordinary. Drawing from his ice hockey background, Russell expressed a fierce competitive spirit, aiming to prove the naysayers wrong.

"We approached this as a group eager to carve out our own unique space, to create something exceptional, and to make those who doubted us reconsider their stance," Russell stated. He further emphasized his athletic background, saying, "I want to make those who think this movie will flop eat their words."

Russell highlighted the unique challenge of Thunderbolts, describing it as a "non-primed movie." Unlike blockbuster franchises such as the Avengers, Thunderbolts does not rely on characters with established solo origin stories. Instead, it features a cast of anti-heroes and lesser-known figures from the Marvel universe.

The film boasts an impressive lineup, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob/Sentry/Void, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Wyatt Russell reprising his role as John Walker/U.S. Agent.

"There are no characters in this film with significant standalone presence in the Marvel universe," Russell noted. He emphasized that Thunderbolts focuses on "misfit types," a challenge embraced by director Jake Schreier and the ensemble cast, with encouragement from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Russell also touched on the diverse career paths of the cast members, pointing out that many of them, including himself, had varied and unconventional journeys before joining the MCU. "Most of us didn't make it by following a traditional path. I did odd TV shows for years, David Harbour has been acting on Broadway since 2000, and Sebastian Stan had a whole career before Marvel. While he's been a part of it for a long time, he's also done incredible things outside of Marvel. It hasn't defined him. The same goes for Florence," Russell explained.

The Thunderbolts: The Tumultuous History of Marvel's Twisted Super-Team

View 11 ImagesEarlier this month, Sebastian Stan opened up about his career struggles before landing the pivotal role of the Winter Soldier in the MCU. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Stan revealed how a $65,000 residuals payment from his role in Hot Tub Time Machine was a financial lifeline. He played the antagonist Blaine in the 2010 sci-fi comedy before starring alongside Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011.

"I was actually struggling with work," Stan admitted. "I had just gotten off the phone with my business manager, who told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from Hot Tub Time Machine."

Stan's portrayal of Bucky Barnes continued across multiple films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), the Avengers series, and this year's Captain America: Brave New World. He is set to reprise his role in next month's Thunderbolts. Stan's involvement was confirmed in Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, suggesting that Bucky and other Thunderbolts members, such as John Walker, will remain integral to the MCU for the foreseeable future.
