MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage
Monster Hunter Wilds is considering extending their Open Beta Test 2 by 24 hours following a significant PlayStation Network outage. Dive in to learn more about the potential extension and the related events.

Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2

PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is actively considering a one-day extension of their Open Beta Test 2 due to a recent PlayStation Network outage. This outage began at 6 PM EST on February 7th and lasted for 24 hours, affecting all online gameplay on the console, including the MH Wilds beta. The service was restored at approximately 8 PM EST, as confirmed by the official PlayStation NA X (Twitter) support account.

While the specific dates for the extension are yet to be announced, MH Wilds has confirmed a 24-hour extension to compensate for the lost playtime. This could potentially occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official launch. Beta Test 2 Part 1 has already concluded, and Part 2 is scheduled to start on February 13th at 7 PM PT, allowing players to resume their adventures and possibly encounter the amusing low-poly bug.

The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has clarified that the beta test builds are outdated and do not represent the final game quality. These builds are prone to bugs, including the well-known low-poly character glitch, which occurs when textures fail to load correctly, turning characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky versions of themselves.

Rather than frustration, the gaming community has embraced this glitch, sharing humorous low-poly encounters on social media. Some fans even express hope that MH Wilds will pay homage to this glitch in future updates. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team acknowledged the bug's entertainment value while encouraging players to experience the fully optimized game upon its release on February 28th, 2025.

Monster Hunter Wilds marks a new chapter in the renowned Monster Hunter series, introducing the first open-world setting, the Forbidden Lands. As a Hunter, players will explore this uncharted territory and confront its apex predator, the White Wraith. The game will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years

PlayStation attributed the 24-hour outage to an "operational issue" and issued an apology on their NA X (Twitter) support account. As compensation, active PlayStation Plus members will receive an additional five days of service.

However, the lack of communication during the outage led to widespread concern among users, reminiscent of the 2011 PSN outage caused by a hacker attack that compromised 77 million accounts. The 2011 incident led to a three and a half week service interruption, from April 20th to May 14th, during which Sony regularly updated users about the situation and the ongoing investigations.
