Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda recently unveiled the upcoming updates for the May 28 Ver. 1.011 release, promising an array of exciting features and modifications. Among the highlights is a collaboration with Street Fighter 6, introducing the iconic character Akuma to the game. Players will receive a complete Arkuma armor set along with layered armor. Equipping either set grants access to three special items: Assisted Combo Akuma, Drive Impact, and Gou Hadoken. For more details, visit the official Monster Hunter website.
The Ver. 1.011 update will also introduce eight-star "challenging" monsters, expanding the hunting opportunities for players at HR 41 and above. Monsters such as Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad will now be available, offering tougher challenges compared to their seven-star counterparts. Tempered Gore Magala, in particular, poses a significant challenge even for seasoned hunters. As players progress, they can expect more high-difficulty quests and multi-monster encounters.
Balancing adjustments across various weapons are also in store, with the Hammer, Hunting Horn, Gunlance, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun receiving updates. Certain aspects of Gunlance Artian weapons have been enhanced, while some parameters have been reduced. Tokuda assures that these changes expand the possibilities for each weapon type, encouraging players to explore their potential post-update.
Quality-of-life improvements include the ability to rest in the Grand Hub and Suja, Peaks of Accord, restoring all destroyed Pop-up Camps. When the item pouch is full, confirmation windows no longer appear after obtaining items; instead, the item is automatically sent to the item box. The visibility of meal effect durations has been improved, displaying a countdown 10 minutes before expiration. Notifications have been streamlined to reduce clutter, ensuring only high-priority alerts appear in the environment overview and allowing map interaction without interruption.
Additional features include the ability to view captured endemic life in the Windward Plains, showcasing creature details such as names, sizes, and weights. Fish caught can also be recorded, with favorites retained even beyond storage limits. Stability enhancements, especially on Steam, accompany the introduction of eight-star monsters, along with increased rewards for eight-star investigations and field surveys. Fishing Guild Point rewards have been rebalanced, though specifics remain undisclosed.
Monster Hunter Wilds continues to refine the series' mechanics, delivering enjoyable battles while maintaining its challenging nature. The game received an 8 in our review, praising its dynamic environments and engaging storyline. Interestingly, players have discovered an unconventional method of executing dodge attacks using emotes, adding another layer of creativity to the gameplay.
