Player First Games announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, concluding on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.

Online play will cease on May 30th; however, Player First assures players that offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available via local and training modes. The team expressed gratitude for player support in a heartfelt message.

Real-money transactions have been discontinued, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until the May 30th deadline. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.

MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million total for the games sector. This news comes after the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.

CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels cited MultiVersus as a primary factor in the November financial call, stating, "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new characters Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass), alongside standard seasonal content, providing a final hurrah for the free-to-play title.
