Nintendo has announced that the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This extended duration for a Nintendo Direct indicates a packed presentation with significant details to cover in this highly anticipated event.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST. Nintendo plans to provide a “detailed overview” of Switch 2, building on its brief console reveal earlier this year.
That initial teaser showcased the Switch 2’s design, offered a glimpse of what appears to be Mario Kart 9, and hinted at a possible ‘mouse’ mode for the new Joy-Con.
Several questions about Switch 2 remain unanswered, including the function of the new Joy-Con ‘C’ button, the console’s performance capabilities, and the purpose of its new ports.
The Nintendo Direct is expected to reveal the full Switch 2 launch game lineup and a release date, projected to fall between June and September 2025. There’s hope Nintendo will confirm the Switch 2 price, with analysts estimating a $400 price point.
Expectations for Switch 2’s game lineup are growing. A variety of rumored third-party titles are reportedly in development, and in an IGN interview, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis described Switch 2’s apparent Joy-Con mouse mode as “highly compelling”. Nacon, a French publisher behind titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games prepared. Rumors also suggest Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for Switch 2. EA has indicated that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for Switch 2.
Last week’s Nintendo Direct introduced a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games across systems, sparking further questions about Switch 2, particularly due to a fine print note on Nintendo’s official website.
Nintendo also confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 event, featuring hands-on gameplay of Switch 2 titles, set for April 3 and April 4 at 7am PT each day.
