Nintendo and Xbox Set to Shine at Summer Game Fest 2025

Summer Game Fest 2025 welcomes Nintendo back after a two-year hiatus. Discover what Nintendo might reveal at SGF and the anticipated highlights from the Xbox Games Showcase.

Summer Game Fest 2025 Partner Announcements

With Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2025 just days away, excitement is building for this year’s lineup. A May 28 post on X revealed that SGF will feature over 60 partners, including the return of Japanese gaming powerhouse Nintendo.

Nintendo skipped the last two SGF events, focusing instead on its Nintendo Direct presentations. This year, the company is back, likely spotlighting its upcoming next-generation handheld, the Switch 2.

While Nintendo’s presence at SGF is confirmed, a full-scale stage show isn’t guaranteed. Fans can anticipate updates on the Switch 2 and possibly new trailers for its upcoming games.

Xbox Games Showcase to Highlight Everwild and State of Decay 3

Xbox, a consistent SGF partner, will host its annual Xbox Games Showcase during the event’s weekend. Alongside anticipated titles like Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day and Reloaded, and Outer Wilds 2, which will have its own Direct, two other games are generating buzz.

State of Decay 3, first unveiled at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, shared a new cinematic trailer in 2024 featuring in-game assets, signaling significant progress in development.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer expressed enthusiasm for the series in a February 2025 Xbox Era interview, saying, “State of Decay is a franchise I’ve loved since the original. The work Double Fine is doing, with Tim actively seeking team feedback, is exciting.”

Spencer also highlighted Rare’s new IP, Everwild, announced in 2019 and described as a “unique and unforgettable experience in a natural, magical world.” In the same interview, he noted, “I recently visited Rare, and it’s great to see the progress the team is making on Everwild.”

The buzz around these titles suggests they may appear at the Xbox Games Showcase, though Xbox has yet to confirm the event’s full lineup.

The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 is set for June 8 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET, streaming live on Xbox’s YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels. The Outer Worlds 2 Direct will follow immediately after.
