Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from their original Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than what was seen for other titles.

Previously, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were available for a $9.99 upgrade each to their Switch 2 Editions. However, NintendoLife has noted that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content called "Star-Crossed World". Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes "Jamboree TV", a new suite of content that utilizes the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls, the Switch 2's microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both editions also offer enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online features.

While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are yet to be confirmed—potentially due to fluctuations related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, a significant jump from the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same pricing applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The high upgrade cost could be influenced by the $80 price tags of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. For comparison, the original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on April 24, maintaining a price of $449.99. Demand has been high, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers applying for pre-orders from the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
