Nintendo Switch 2 Controller Patent Revealed

A newly revealed Nintendo game controller patent has sparked speculation about a potential Ring Fit Adventure sequel for the upcoming Switch 2 console.

Discovered by Nintendo Patents Watch, the filing was submitted in late May 2025 and recently became publicly available – though all accompanying diagrams remain confidential.

Nintendo holds ownership of this patent for "video game controller accessories," with notable designer Fumiyoshi Suetake credited for the device.

Suetake played a pivotal role in creating the original Ring Fit Adventure, which debuted on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and surpassed 15 million units sold. The fitness RPG bundles a flexible pilates ring that players manipulate during workout routines.

Suetake's involvement strongly indicates this unannounced controller could be an upgraded Ring Fit accessory.

Nintendo Patents Watch also observed that Nintendo recently extended legal protections for its original Ring Fit controller, showing continued investment in the product line.

Manufacturing partner Foxconn has additionally revealed work on advanced force-sensing technology for a gaming client, releasing schematics resembling an enhanced Ring Fit controller design.

Collectively, these developments suggest Nintendo is preparing new Ring Fit Adventure content, potentially launching alongside Switch 2. The original's pandemic-era success – selling millions to homebound fitness enthusiasts – makes sequel development a logical next step.

In our review, IGN praised Ring Fit Adventure's "innovative fusion of exercise and RPG elements," calling it "both entertaining and physically demanding."

With Nintendo Switch 2 now available, players can explore enhanced versions of Switch classics like ARMS and Zelda, plus numerous exclusive launch titles.
