Gamers around the world let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows?" The change came after import tariffs introduced by President Trump caused a financial market upheaval, and the ripple effect has now crossed into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in their region are also delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border connections.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a communication with the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, to evaluate the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions. Nintendo will update the schedule at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged.

With the original pre-order launch date just around the corner, there's still no indication of when eager fans can start the frantic process of refreshing their browsers and verifying their credit card details, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes beyond the initially announced price of $449.99.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live in the UK today, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out, leading to scalpers listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
