Today, the gaming community holds its collective breath as the countdown to the Nintendo Switch 2 launch on June 5th ticks away. However, there's an important update for our readers: Nintendo has confirmed there will be no traditional pre-launch review access to the Switch 2 hardware, a departure from the usual console launch process. Consequently, we won't be able to evaluate titles like Mario Kart World, Welcome Tour, or the enhanced Zelda games and other ports in time for our standard launch-day reviews.
This situation is less than ideal and disrupts the plans of our team—and the wider media, including our tech-focused colleagues at Digital Foundry—to answer your pressing questions at or before launch. Providing you with comprehensive insights into new hardware and games right when you're making significant spending decisions is a point of pride for us and one of the most rewarding aspects of our work at IGN.

While this isn't the first time we've adapted to such circumstances, we're prepared to deliver the next best thing. We'll work diligently to get you those answers as quickly as possible after launch without sacrificing quality. As soon as our pre-ordered Switch 2 units arrive, we'll begin our coverage. This will include an ongoing review of Mario Kart World (from our in-house champion and NVC host Logan Plant), detailed impressions of the Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and analysis of third-party ports like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy, focusing on performance and comparisons to other platforms. Simultaneously, our hardware team will evaluate the Switch 2 console (reviewed by Switch expert Tom Marks), the new Joy-Cons, the Pro Controller 2 (assessed by controller specialist Michael Higham), the camera, and every other accessory we can obtain.
Our goal is to publish most, if not all, of these reviews within a week of launch and to address any major questions that arise as early adopters worldwide put the new console through its paces. It's a substantial task, but we're ready for it.
