Nintendo has unveiled the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a unique digital game designed to introduce players to the features and capabilities of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Contrary to expectations, this isn't a free pack-in game but a paid digital title available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop from the Switch 2's launch day.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the game was showcased as a "virtual exhibition" of the new console. According to Nintendo, it offers "tech demos, minigames, and other interactions," allowing players to explore the system in depth. The presentation included footage of a player avatar navigating a larger-than-life Switch 2, learning about its features and engaging in minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo. It's essentially a virtual museum dedicated to the Switch 2.
Nintendo confirmed through their stream and press release that the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available for purchase on the launch day of the Switch 2. While this tool is innovative, fans have expressed curiosity and some disappointment about it being a paid digital game rather than a complimentary pack-in with the console. As of now, no specific price has been announced.
The Switch 2 is set to launch with an array of titles including Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. While the Welcome Tour is an exciting showcase for the new console, it will be vying for attention and budget amidst these other high-profile releases.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a price tag of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
