During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting details about their upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch 2. They confirmed that nearly the entire catalog of games from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the new system. However, some standout titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, packed with special features.

The first game showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which will feature an upgrade called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade introduces innovative features like mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble feedback, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both slated for improved resolution and framerate, as well as HDR support. Additionally, these titles will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the option to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will receive a new exclusive story titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.

Two anticipated new releases, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also getting upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 featuring exclusive game modes.

The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a webpage footnote about the Virtual Game Card system, which noted that these editions could not be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Cards.
