Bethesda has unveiled the much-anticipated The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which is now available for players to dive into. While the remaster brings significant enhancements over the original, a notable omission has caught the attention of the gaming community: the absence of official mod support.
During the official reveal livestream, Bethesda proudly announced the immediate availability of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, showcasing its stunning upgrades. Yet, the lack of official mod support has left many fans disheartened. Bethesda's decision to exclude mod support, as confirmed on their support page, remains unexplained. This is particularly surprising given their history of robust support for the modding community, including the provision of Creation Kits for games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield.
Despite this setback, the modding community has not been deterred. Enthusiasts are actively working to adapt existing mods using the original game's Creation Kit. Discussions and tutorials on platforms like Reddit are buzzing with modders sharing insights on adapting their creations to the remaster, which now operates on Unreal Engine 5.
Even without official mod support, the community's ingenuity shines through in other areas. Just three hours after the remaster's launch, fans began experimenting with playing Oblivion Remastered in VR using UEVR, a tool designed to enable VR play in non-VR games. YouTuber LunchAndVR shared an early test video on their channel, demonstrating the game's performance in VR with motion controls. The footage, captured at 70 fps on a setup featuring a GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB of RAM, suggests that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (also accessible via Xbox Game Pass), and PC. For the latest updates and insights on the game, be sure to check out our dedicated article.
