Peacemaker Season 2: Release Date and New Footage Revealed

DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is “one of my favorite things ever.” The tweet was accompanied by a brief clip of new footage, featuring John Cena's character in action, complete with a signature smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of blazing fire. In the footage, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21. pic.twitter.com/df3yOcCsdn — James Gunn (@JamesGunn) April 7, 2025

This eagerly awaited season follows closely on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, which marks the beginning of Gunn's revamped DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new cinematic universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the less successful DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some continuity will be maintained, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 transitions into the new DCU.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire *Team Peacemaker* will return, with the original cast reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
