Earlier this month, Ubisoft emphasized that the game has secured robust preorder numbers despite a rocky development and marketing phase.
In its latest financial update, the embattled publisher noted that "preorders for the game are performing strongly, comparable to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the franchise’s second most successful title."
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed optimism. "Initial previews have been favorable, commending its storytelling and immersive world, with both protagonists driving the narrative and the engaging, complementary gameplay offered by the dual protagonist approach,” he stated.
"I want to applaud the remarkable talent and commitment of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who are working diligently to ensure Shadows fulfills its promise as the franchise’s most expansive entry to date."
Assassin's Creed Shadows was initially slated for November, then delayed to February 14, before being postponed again to its current March 20 release date.
The game carries high expectations as the long-awaited Japan-set chapter, the first major Assassin’s Creed title since 2020, and a critical release for a struggling Ubisoft needing a strong performance amid recent setbacks and investor dissatisfaction.
Its promotional journey has been turbulent, with the development team issuing apologies for inaccuracies in the game’s portrayal of Japan and unauthorized use of a historical reenactment group’s flag.
Further controversy arose when collectible figure maker PureArts pulled an Assassin’s Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design.
