FF7 Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to the game's producer and director. This confirmation addresses concerns raised by PlayStation fans following the release patterns of previous installments.
PS5 Launch Assured
Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi, in a recent interview with 4Gamer (January 23, 2025), explicitly stated that FF7 Remake Part 3 will launch on the PS5. This reassures PlayStation players after the staggered releases of the first two games across PlayStation and PC platforms.
While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the completion of the FF7 Remake trilogy remains uncertain.
Release Date Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the official release date. However, development, initiated alongside FF7 Rebirth, is progressing smoothly. Hamaguchi, in a Famitsu interview (January 23, 2025), described the progress as excellent, with a playable build confirming the game's direction by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A Washington Post report (March 6, 2024) suggests a timed exclusivity agreement between PlayStation and Square Enix for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Past release patterns indicate a PS5 exclusive period, followed by a release on other platforms. FF7 Remake had a one-year exclusivity, Intergrade six months, and Rebirth launched on PC on January 23, 2025, after its PS5 exclusivity.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report (March 31, 2024) revealed declining sales in its HD titles. To counteract this, the company announced an aggressive multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests that future titles, including potential future installments, may see wider releases sooner than previous entries.
