Sony is enhancing the user experience for PlayStation Portal users participating in its Cloud Streaming Beta with a significant update rolling out later today. This update brings several new features and improvements to the remote play system's cloud capabilities, aiming to enrich gameplay and streamline navigation.
A key addition to the update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their game library by various categories such as Name, Release Date, and which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus. This feature will make it easier for users to find and select their preferred games quickly.
Another exciting update is the introduction of gameplay capture during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users can utilize the familiar create menu options to take screenshots or record video clips. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be recorded in up to 1920x1080 resolution and up to three minutes in length, allowing players to capture and share their favorite moments seamlessly.
The update also introduces a pause feature for gameplay. Streaming will pause when you access the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode via the power button, or encounter a system error message. However, the pause in rest mode is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal remains in rest mode longer, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. Note that this pause functionality is not available during online multiplayer sessions.
Additional enhancements include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for user inactivity, and tools for gathering user feedback. Sony emphasizes its commitment to continuously improving the service based on user input.
Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly to the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and it appears Sony is dedicated to further developing this functionality.
As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the modern gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's offerings evolve in conjunction with the PlayStation Portal. One immediate benefit for users is the ability to capture numerous screenshots during their streaming sessions, enhancing the overall experience.
This update underscores Sony's ongoing efforts to refine and expand the capabilities of the PlayStation Portal, ensuring a robust and user-friendly cloud streaming experience for gamers.
