This guide details how to obtain and utilize Hydreigon, a powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, along with its pre-evolutions Deino and Zweilous, are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.
Acquiring Deino and Zweilous:
Deino and Zweilous are found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet:
- Alfornada Cavern: Located southwest Paldea; requires Koraidon's high jump ability. Expect levels 35-40.
- Dalizapa Passage: Situated between Medali and Zapapico. Expect levels 35-40.
- Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, North Province (Area Two): Easier to access than the cavern and passage.
Additionally, Deino can be found in 3-star Tera Raids (requires 3 gym badges), potentially with its Hidden Ability and a varying Tera Type. Zweilous appears in 4-star Tera Raids.
Obtaining Deino in Pokémon Violet:
Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, trading or transferring via Pokémon HOME is necessary. Pokémon HOME requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership for Union Circle trading, or the HOME app for direct transfer from compatible games (Sword/Shield, GO, Scarlet). Transfer instructions:
- Move Deino from your source game to your HOME Basic Box.
- Open Pokémon Violet in HOME and transfer Deino to a PC Box.
Evolving Deino:
- Deino to Zweilous: Level 50
- Zweilous to Hydreigon: Level 64
Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended) to expedite evolution.
Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:
Hydreigon boasts a 600 base stat total, excelling in Special Attack and Attack, with decent Speed. A Timid or Jolly nature is recommended.
- Stats: HP: 92, Attack: 105, Sp. Attack: 125, Defense: 90, Sp. Defense: 90, Speed: 98
- Type Effectiveness: Super effective against Dragon, Ghost, Psychic. Weak to Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice. Resists Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark. Immune to Ground, Psychic.
- Strategy: Terastallizing mitigates the 4x Fairy weakness. Its movepool allows for both physical and special attacking builds. A Special Attacker build is generally preferred due to the lack of access to strong physical Steel-type moves, making Flash Cannon (via TM) crucial for Fairy coverage. Other suggested moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.

Hydreigon remains a top-tier Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, despite its weaknesses. Strategic move selection and Terastallizing are key to maximizing its potential.
