During Sony's recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered caught the attention of many, but it has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling frustrated due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who redeemed it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full $49.99 to access the PS5 remastered version.

This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums to voice their dissatisfaction. A notable thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is filled with comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are now opting to forego the game entirely due to the full price requirement. Users like squarejellyfish_ have pointed out that Sony could have potentially earned a significant amount if PS Plus players were allowed to upgrade, as many would have been willing to pay $10 to try out the remastered version for a short period.

Comments from subscribers such as teckn9ne79 and dredizzle99 further illustrate the sentiment, with teckn9ne79 stating they would only pay the $10 upgrade fee and not the full price, while dredizzle99 called the decision "pretty stupid," suggesting that Sony is missing out on potential sales from the PS Plus community. Jackanyon95 echoed these sentiments, criticizing Sony's decision as "awkward" and unnecessary, especially since the game was previously offered for free through PS Plus.

Despite the backlash, some PS Plus subscribers have acknowledged that Sony's decision might be financially driven, suggesting that the company has likely calculated that restricting the upgrade will be more profitable in the long run. However, this has led to Sony being labeled as "stingy" by some of its dedicated fans, who were hoping for a more generous approach from the gaming giant.

While Days Gone Remastered was a highlight of the State of Play, it was not the only game announced. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements, check out IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup.
