Punisher Photos Hint at New Marvel Villain

Newly surfaced behind-the-scenes photos from the filming of Marvel's Punisher Special Presentation appear to confirm the next major adversary for the armed vigilante Frank Castle.

Following his recent return in *Daredevil: Born Again*, Jon Bernthal's acclaimed portrayal of Frank Castle, the Punisher, will next headline his own one-off Special Presentation slated for release next year on Disney+.

Plot details for the Punisher's return remain tightly under wraps, but ongoing location filming in New York now seems to have unveiled a pivotal scene, featuring Castle confronting a memorable foe from the Marvel comics.

Leaked images depict Castle facing a dark-haired woman in a wheelchair, a figure instantly recognizable to comic fans as Isabella "Ma" Gnucci, a ruthless mafia boss seeking vengeance for her sons' deaths at Castle's hands.

Gnucci is a notable villain with a backstory as brutal as any Punisher tale. In the comics, her vengeful crusade persists even after Castle unleashes polar bears on her at the New York City zoo, an attack that leaves her a quadriplegic.

The photos show Gnucci already wheelchair-bound, pointing an accusatory finger at Castle during a tense meeting in a playground. While we won't spoil her ultimate fate from the comics, those assuming Castle shows mercy clearly don't know Frank.

Next year is shaping up to be a busy one for the Punisher, who also appears opposite Tom Holland in the big-screen feature *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. How Holland's upbeat Spider-Man will react to the gun-toting vigilante remains to be seen, though reports suggest the unlikely duo will team up to subdue the Hulk once more.

"When the Punisher joins the Spider-Man movie, it introduces a different tone," Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "This is our first time seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man fully established on his own, dedicated to protecting his city and tackling street-level threats rather than global catastrophes.

"That approach naturally leads us to ask: which other street-level characters has he never met? I've always loved that the Punisher first appeared in a Spider-Man comic."

An official release date for Frank's solo Special Presentation has yet to be announced. *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, however, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
