While Marvel Rivals is still in its early stages, players are already eager for significant new features. Recent talk of a possible PvE boss battle has sparked speculation that a PvE mode might be coming soon. However, NetEase recently stated that such a mode is not currently in the plans... for now.

We caught up with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at this week's DICE Summit in Las Vegas and asked him about potential PvE content. Here's what he said:

"At the moment, we don't have any PvE plans, but our team is always testing new gameplay modes. If we discover a new mode is genuinely fun and engaging, we'd definitely share it with our players."

After he answered, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo jumped in to ask if I personally wanted a PvE mode, and I confirmed that I did. Wu added:

"Yes, we know some of our audience would enjoy PvE. However, a deep PvE experience would be quite different from the current game. Our development team is exploring various ways to approach this, perhaps a more casual version, to find what fits our game best."

For the time being, it appears there are no solid plans for PvE, though Wu hints that NetEase is testing ideas for a simpler, possibly limited-time mode. NetEase isn't sharing further details yet.

Marvel Rivals continues to receive updates roughly every six weeks, adding new heroes like the Human Torch and The Thing, who are scheduled to arrive on February 21. We also discussed with Wu and Koo the chance of a Nintendo Switch 2 version, which you can read about here, and asked whether they've been planting fake hero "leaks" in the code to mislead dataminers.
