A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may launch by late 2025, with reports also indicating a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" claim a Switch 2 edition of Rockstar's Wild West epic is in development, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" to enhance the game on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S).
While details remain sparse, GameReactor's sources suggest the port and upgrade patch could arrive as early as late this year.
This aligns with reports from Nintenduo, which states the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. It remains unclear whether the port will be digital-only or include a physical release.
We hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "masterpiece" in 2018, giving it a 10/10. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review described it as: "A meticulously crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era, brimming with unparalleled quality."
The prospect of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch 2 may not be entirely unexpected. In a recent Q&A with investors after Take-Two's latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "strong confidence" in Nintendo's new platform. He noted that Nintendo's support for third-party publishers has improved significantly compared to previous efforts.
"We're rolling out four titles for Nintendo Switch 2, a broader lineup than we've ever provided for a new Nintendo platform," Zelnick said. "Historically, third-party publishing on Nintendo platforms has been tough. Nintendo has made strides to address this, and we're stepping up with optimism for the platform. We evaluate each platform individually, aiming to reach consumers where they are, though not every title will appear on every platform. There are also excellent opportunities for our catalog titles."

Take-Two is set to release Civilization 7 (June 5, launch day), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific titles and dates unclear), and Borderlands 4 (September 12) on Switch 2. These titles aren't surprising, as Take-Two already supports these franchises on the original Nintendo Switch. Zelnick's comments, however, hint at potential future releases from Take-Two's catalog. While GTA 6 is unlikely, titles like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be possibilities.
