It's confirmed: Resident Evil 9 is on the way, with its first showcase unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025.
Resident Evil Requiem, a single-player survival horror experience, launches February 27, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
During the SGF presentation, host Geoff Keighley described Resident Evil Requiem as a "daring evolution for the series, blending intense tone and innovative gameplay." Anticipate "thrilling cinematic action" alongside classic survival horror elements.
Watch the debut trailer below.
The trailer showcases a devastated Raccoon City, destroyed in Resident Evil 3, with visuals hinting at a potential open-world design. A glimpse of the ruined Raccoon City Police Department adds to the atmosphere.
A new playable character, FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft, may take center stage. She’s investigating bizarre deaths and is drawn back to the site of her mother’s murder, confronting her past in the process.
In a chilling moment, Grace is seen restrained on a gurney as a shadowy figure declares, "I know now that you're the one I've been searching for... special one. Chosen one." Is Grace the focus? If she’s playable, will she be the sole protagonist, or will familiar Resident Evil characters like Leon return as playable options?
