Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin’s newest title, Hinuka Junreitan, is arriving on mobile devices and PC. TOHO Games, Edelweiss, and G2 Studios have officially announced Sakuna: Hinuka Junreitan today. This free-to-play spin-off will be available for Android, iOS, and Steam.
First teased in November 2024, the game has now launched its official website and X account. Consequently, developers are expected to release updates and future announcements more frequently. Hopefully, they will also reveal a specific release date soon.
The original title, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, debuted in 2020 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. It features platforming combat combined with meticulously detailed rice cultivation, creating a unique blend of farming simulation and action RPG.
The game’s folklore, combat system, and farming elements became an instant success. This later inspired an anime adaptation, manga series, and the spin-off Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation. Sakuna Chronicles is currently in development by Edelweiss and Marvelous as a standalone project.
Hinuka Junreitan will feature a structure optimized for mobile devices. This includes item-based microtransactions and live-service components. Regarding the narrative, it adapts the Sakuna universe into a more continuous and expandable format.
Regarding the story, the original game follows Sakuna, an exiled goddess of agriculture. She balances managing a rice paddy with swinging her magical scarf to grapple enemies and traverse platforms.
In that title, character progression is directly linked to the quality of rice you produce. It will be intriguing to see what new features and gameplay additions Sakuna brings to its upcoming mobile edition.
