Saros Is Housemarque’s Successor to Returnal, Arriving in 2026

Housemarque, the developer behind the critically acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, has unveiled their latest project, Saros. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and enhanced for the PS5 Pro, Saros promises to be an exciting follow-up. The game stars Rahul Kohli as Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for answers on a treacherous, ever-changing planet that's haunted by an eclipse and at least one formidable entity.

Revealed during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros carries the unmistakable DNA of a Housemarque title. The game's atmosphere and the phrase "come back stronger" resonate with the roguelike genre, while the display of fireballs suggests the studio's signature bullet-hell mechanics.

According to creative director Gregory Louden, Saros represents the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. Although it introduces a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action foundation laid by Returnal. However, Saros introduces key gameplay distinctions, particularly in terms of permanent resources and progression. While the world of Saros shifts upon the player's death, players will have the ability to permanently upgrade their arsenal of weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and progression to the experience.
