This SSD ranks among our top recommendations for PS5 storage upgrades in 2025. However, it's important to note that it's one of the fastest, most advanced M.2 drives available—so fast that the PS5 cannot utilize its full potential. As IGN's Jacqueline Thomas noted in our review, "the PS5 only rated it for 6,335MB/s" after formatting, which is significantly below Samsung's advertised sequential read/write speeds of up to 14,800MB/s and 13,400MB/s. This doesn't mean you should overlook it, though. The key reason? Future-proofing.

Thomas elaborates: "While Sony has not announced a PlayStation 6, it's highly likely that any future console with user-upgradable storage would utilize the PCIe 5.0 interface, similar to the current PS5." Therefore, while this drive performs perfectly in today's PS5, it is ready to unleash its maximum speed with next-generation hardware. Alternatively, it would serve as an excellent boot drive if you transition to PC gaming.
