Remember Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie? Don't worry, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine is still hard at work on it, and we've got a reassuring update straight from the pen of the project's writer, Jonathan Tropper.

"I am [excited] too," Tropper shared with Screen Rant, sparking enthusiasm about the forthcoming film. "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think."

Currently shrouded in mystery, one of the few known details about this eagerly anticipated film is its setting—post-The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shed light on its timeline during a February interview with Deadline. "That's also in the future," she stated, clarifying that Levy's film is a standalone Star Wars story set "post-[the first] nine, maybe five or six years out." This positions the movie as the first to delve into the post-Rise of Skywalker era.

In the same conversation, Kennedy confirmed that the film will hit theaters after the release of 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu. "I'm producing the Mandalorian movie right now, and I'm also producing Shawn Levy's movie, which is after that," she explained. Additionally, it's been reported that Ryan Gosling is set to star in Levy's project, adding to the excitement.

Tropper's optimistic words signal that progress is being made on Levy's film. However, fans will need to exercise patience, as the movie is not expected until at least the last quarter of 2026, if not 2027.

Disney has not released a Star Wars film since the widely criticized Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. During this hiatus, several projects have been canceled, including films from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from the Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Moreover, a Star Wars movie initially slated for late 2026 was recently removed from Disney's release schedule.

At the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm unveiled plans for three new feature films: a New Republic film directed by Dave Filoni within his Mando-verse, a Dawn of the Jedi movie helmed by James Mangold, and a New Jedi Order feature directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The latter project, which will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey post-The Rise of Skywalker, has undergone several changes, with screenwriter Steven Knight recently stepping away after taking over from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Despite these shifts, Rey remains a key focus for Disney, with reports indicating her involvement in multiple upcoming Star Wars films.

And that's not all Disney has in store for Star Wars fans. Late last year, it was announced that X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is set to write a new trilogy, distinct from the Skywalker Saga.

The next Star Wars content to grace your screens will be Season 2 of Andor, premiering on Disney+ on April 22 with a thrilling triple-episode launch.
