If you're a fan of The Mandalorian and Grogu, you'll be thrilled to hear that Sigourney Weaver joined us at Star Wars Celebration 2025. IGN sat down with her to talk about her exciting new role, her thoughts on Grogu, and even shared her opinion on whether he could outpower a Xenomorph.

Weaver revealed that her character, initially introduced in a Rebel pilot uniform, is now one of the key figures protecting the New Republic in the Outer Rim, where remnants of the Empire still linger. She described her character as someone who requires the help of the Mandalorian and his loyal companion.

When asked about working with Grogu, Weaver couldn’t contain her affection. “He’s mischievous,” she said with a laugh. “No matter how many puppeteers were around him, all I saw was Grogu. I still think he’s real.” Comparing Grogu to other iconic creatures she’s worked with, like Xenomorphs and Na'vi, she declared Grogu the cutest of them all, noting his Kawaii charm.

Reflecting on her journey with The Mandalorian, Weaver admitted she hadn’t watched any episodes before joining the project. “Jon Favreau wasn’t like, ‘You’ve got to start watching this!’” she explained. “I was just thrilled to work with him on a Star Wars project. From the first episode, I found it charming—a great Western with a touch of surprise.”

She went on to share her excitement about seeing Grogu grow into his Force powers, recalling a scene where he tried to swipe her snack. “He’s always trying to do something,” she noted. “In the film, you’ll see him transition from a learner to someone with real skills.”

Asked about her favorite Star Wars movie, Weaver highlighted Rogue One, praising Felicity Jones's character. She emphasized the franchise’s ability to welcome everyone back into its universe, regardless of age or background.

Finally, addressing IGN’s playful question about power dynamics, Weaver joked, “It’s not that I don’t believe in him, but I’m afraid it’s a Xenomorph.” She explained that while Grogu is on the side of good, Xenomorphs are relentless in their pursuit of dominance.

To catch Weaver alongside Grogu, look out for The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to premiere in theaters on May 22, 2026.
