Silent Hill f Earns First 18+ Rating in Franchise History in Japan

Silent Hill f marks the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating in Japan.

The Japanese reveal trailer, unveiled last night, confirms Silent Hill f is rated Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

While still in development, ratings may shift, but as noted by Automaton, Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were rated CERO:C for ages 15+, with non-Japanese developed series entries typically at CERO:C or CERO:D (17+).

Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, a reimagining of the 2001 classic, secured a CERO:C rating in Japan, despite a 17+ rating in most Western markets.

Last night, Konami shared a new Silent Hill Transmission, an online showcase dedicated to Silent Hill f, the first mainline entry in the iconic horror series in 13 years.

Revealed in 2022, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan, following teenager Shimizu Hinako as she navigates intense societal, familial, and peer pressures. The narrative is crafted by Ryukishi07, known for the When They Cry visual novel series.

The trailer depicts Hinako in distress, bloodied and wounded, her school uniform tattered. While focusing on cutscenes rather than gameplay, it offers a glimpse into Silent Hill f's atmosphere, monster designs, and a potential Otherworld filled with crimson flowers, diverging from the series' traditional rust and fans.

No release date for Silent Hill f has been announced, and no updates were provided on No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall.
