Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see the removal of 22 games from their library, including popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering a range of benefits such as free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and exclusive member discounts. For Extra and Premium members, the service also includes access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.

As reported by Push Square, the upcoming removal of 22 games on May 20 includes two significant first-party PS3 titles from Sony's library, which will no longer be available in the PS Plus Premium catalog.

This decision impacts Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, as these games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the only remaining option to play these titles, unless you own them and still have a functional PS3. Both games were added to the library at the end of 2024 and are now being removed less than a year later.

Developed by Insomniac, the Resistance series offers alternate history first-person shooter experiences, following their work on the Ratchet and Clank franchise. The series saw three releases on the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.

While it's rare for Sony to remove first-party titles from their service, it's not unprecedented, as evidenced by the unexpected removal of both Horizon gamesHorizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. Unlike the Horizon games, which remained purchasable after their removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the more recent first-party PS4 game, InFamous: Second Son, is also set to leave PS Plus.

The Resistance series has been on hiatus for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president, Ted Price, disclosed that efforts were made to develop Resistance 4, but the project did not move forward. Similar to Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has been sidelined.
