Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift was announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games. The announcement stated that PS4 games will become less frequent additions to the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Games Catalog. However, previously acquired titles remain accessible, and Games Catalog entries will stay available until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, highlighting continued benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company cited a player shift towards PS5 gaming as the reason for the change, noting the increased preference for PS5 titles.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony's decision reflects the evolving gaming landscape and the increasing PS5 player base. The future inclusion of PS4 games in the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog, currently featuring PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 titles, remains unconfirmed, with further details expected closer to the date.
