Sony has revealed a new PlayStation studio, teamLFG, and shared details about its first game.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, noted that teamLFG was established from Bungie, known for Destiny and Marathon, and is crafting an “ambitious” incubation project he’s thrilled about.
The name teamLFG, short for ‘Looking For Group’ in online gaming culture, highlights its focus on social gaming. Its debut title is a team-based action game inspired by fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and “frog-type games.” “Players will explore a humorous, vibrant world within a fresh, mythic, science-fantasy universe,” teamLFG stated.

“Our mission is to create games that foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging,” the studio emphasized.
“We aim for players to feel excited logging in to find teammates already online. We want them to recognize familiar names, create shared stories, and celebrate epic moments that define a match. As we say internally – that’s the good stuff.
“We’re building immersive multiplayer worlds driven by action-packed gameplay, designed for players to learn, enjoy, and master over countless hours. We plan to develop our games alongside our community, inviting players into early access playtests. Staying responsive to player feedback is key, not just before launch but throughout our live service as we evolve the game and community for years ahead.”

teamLFG’s game is an incubation project spun off from Bungie during significant layoffs last year. After Sony’s acquisition, Bungie reportedly struggled to meet financial goals with Destiny 2’s decline, resulting in 100 employees laid off in November 2023. A second wave of layoffs in 2024 affected 220 staff, or 17% of Bungie’s workforce, with 155 others reassigned within Sony Interactive Entertainment. This project’s spinoff was announced during this period.
Last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony’s role in driving improvements to the struggling live service looter shooter Destiny 2, calling it a positive influence.
Since then, Bungie has unveiled its extraction shooter Marathon and outlined Destiny 2’s future roadmap this week. Reports confirm Bungie has no plans for Destiny 3 and has canceled a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
