Sony's jam-packed State of Play showcase in June 2025 has broken its all-time concurrent viewership record.
Sony launched the summer gaming season with a spectacular lineup, serving up a feast of new titles to get fans excited for Summer Games Fest week. Highlights included glimpses of 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.
Streams Charts reports that this week's State of Play reached a historic peak of over 2.2 million simultaneous viewers. The data places this showcase as the third most-watched gaming or tech presentation of 2025 by peak viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct events attracted larger audiences, with Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal comfortably taking the top spot.
As noted by Push Square, while impressive, this wasn't Sony's most-viewed livestream overall. That distinction belongs to the PS5 reveal event, which has amassed 44 million views to date. The Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn showcases also drew massive audiences, with 15 and 10 million views respectively. Nevertheless, Tuesday's broadcast stands as the most successful State of Play event ever.
The presentation heavily featured third-party developers, particularly Japanese studios, with major reveals from Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. Notably, first-party titles were scarce throughout the show.
This year's summer showcase seemed specifically tailored for dedicated gamers. The lineup leaned heavily toward action-oriented experiences, many of which are likely to receive mature or 18+ ratings.
