Stardew Valley's creator recently announced that the nine-year-old farming simulation will receive a new update, coming over a year after the last one. Discover what this announcement means and how it relates to the highly anticipated Haunted Chocolatier!
Eric Barone, the developer behind Stardew Valley known as ConcernedApe, has just confirmed that update 1.7 is in development. The news was first shared during a Stardew Valley: Symphony of Seasons live performance and later verified by Barone on Twitter (X). Specifics about what the update will include remain under wraps.
"Following version 1.6, I mentioned that I didn’t expect to release another update," Barone told the audience. "But tonight, I want to let you in on a little secret. There is going to be another update."

Since its 2016 debut, this beloved indie farming simulator has consistently received free updates and expansions, all crafted single-handedly by Barone. His dedication to this passion project has paid off immensely, with Stardew Valley's popularity continuing to grow nearly a decade after launch. Interestingly, the game's lowest concurrent player count on Steam last year—around 89,000—almost matched its previous peak of 94,897 players before 2024.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause, as the 1.6 update released earlier in 2024 was originally intended to be the final one—at least until Barone's next title, Haunted Chocolatier, launches. "Stardew Valley takes time away from my full focus on Haunted Chocolatier... I've made a commitment not to work on Stardew Valley until Haunted Chocolatier is complete," Barone explained to PC Gamer in April.
First revealed in 2021, Haunted Chocolatier is expected to be even more expansive than Stardew Valley. While fans celebrated the new Stardew update, some also voiced concerns about potential delays for the new game. Fortunately, Barone quickly reassured everyone, confirming that the Stardew Valley update will not impact the development timeline for Haunted Chocolatier.
