What is the current status of Boba Fett? The legendary Star Wars character last appeared at the conclusion of his own series, The Book of Boba Fett, back in February 2022. While the Disney+ spinoff received mixed reactions, with some fans arguing it softened the iconic antagonist too much, surely this cannot be the end for Boba Fett—or can it?
More than three years later, it seems a second season of The Book of Boba Fett remains trapped in a distant galaxy. Lucasfilm has not signaled any plans for the show's return, though next year's The Mandalorian & Grogu movie presents a potential avenue for a live-action comeback. Could there be a fourth season of The Mandalorian? Lucasfilm has remained silent, but if it happens, Boba Fett might just make an appearance.
In reality, the future of both Boba Fett and Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrays him, remains up in the air. And based on recent remarks from Morrison himself, there's little to suggest that will change anytime soon.
In an interview with Collider while promoting his new film, Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), the 64-year-old New Zealand actor expressed disappointment at not having returned to the role since The Book of Boba Fett ended.
“Where is The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where the heck is Season 2? I’m aware Ahsoka Season 2 is happening. And I’m asking, ‘Hey, what about my Season 2?’”
According to Collider, Morrison mentioned he even proposed to Lucasfilm the idea of Boba Fett showing up in Ahsoka Season 2—suggesting he could play Captain Rex and take the helmet off. He emphasized that he portrays not only Boba Fett but also all the clones derived from the character.
He also recently ran into Star Wars overseers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, reminding them that Boba Fett is still around. Reportedly, “they sort of replied, ‘Well, well’—they were careful not to reveal too much, but there were a few hints. They just left it at that.”
That interaction left Morrison feeling like “I’ve been saved for later, and I’ll be even better then.” He likened the sensation to visiting his grandmother’s house and spotting “that jar of preserved peaches up on the shelf.”

“That’s how I see it,” he went on. “I’m one of those peaches, stored on the shelf. They’re keeping me for later, and when the time comes, I’ll be even more flavorful.”
Morrison might be playing it coy, fully aware that he will return to the Star Wars universe eventually. After all, Rosario Dawson had no clue Mark Hamill would reprise Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian until he showed up on set. Lucasfilm is known for keeping its plans under wraps.
However, it does seem to me that nothing is currently in development for Boba Fett, which is a shame. In fact, last year Morrison offered one possible explanation. During the From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters panel at Fan Expo Chicago, he pointed to the lukewarm reception of The Book of Boba Fett as a reason the fan-favorite character wasn’t included in Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu. He also noted that Disney, which owns Star Wars, had not approached him to appear in the upcoming film or in a second season of The Book of Boba Fett.
The series, which chronicled Boba Fett’s escape from the Sarlacc and essentially served as a mini-season of The Mandalorian, ranked among the least popular Star Wars shows. “It appears the show's reception has influenced the character’s future in the franchise,” Morrison commented at the time. That was in August 2024. Has anything shifted in the year since? It’s hard to say.
Morrison first portrayed Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, then returned years later as Jango’s son and clone, Boba Fett. He has openly expressed his wish to come back to Star Wars, noting he’d like a substantial role in The Mandalorian, similar to how The Mandalorian took the spotlight in an episode of his own series.
