Time-Warped TCG Showdown Ignites Passion and Debate

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCGO) Space Time Smackdown expansion, released January 30th, features a Weavile ex card depicting a disturbing scene that has sparked outrage among players. Specifically, the full-art 2-Star version shows a group of Weavile poised to attack an unsuspecting Swinub.

This depiction of potential predation has generated significant online discussion, with many expressing concern and dismay at the graphic nature of the card's artwork. Reddit threads are filled with comments expressing sympathy for the Swinub and highlighting the unexpectedly brutal portrayal of Pokémon interactions. One post, garnering nearly 10,000 upvotes, simply exclaims, "NO ! SWINUB LOOK UP !! LOOK UP !!".

However, some players offer a more optimistic interpretation, pointing to the Mamoswine full-art card, Swinub's evolution, which shows Mamoswine looking upward, seemingly vigilant and protective of several Swinub. This has led to hopeful speculation that Mamoswine intervened, saving the Swinub from the Weavile.

The Space Time Smackdown expansion, themed around Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, includes 207 cards, featuring popular Pokémon like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, alongside Weavile and Mamoswine. While smaller than the Genetic Apex expansion, it boasts a higher percentage of rare alternate art cards (52 out of 207, compared to 60 out of 286 in Genetic Apex).

Despite the controversy surrounding the Weavile card and a recent trading update, Creatures Inc. has yet to publicly address the concerns. While a "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" was distributed, including 500 Trade Tokens and 120 Trade Hourglasses, the developer remains silent on fan feedback and has not responded to requests for comment.
