The announcement of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for Nintendo Switch has become the most-liked tweet from Nintendo of Japan. This article explores the game's exceptional online popularity and highlights key features fans spotted in its reveal trailer.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Makes a Huge Splash on Switch

Game Announcement Becomes Nintendo Japan's Most-Liked Tweet Ever

The reveal of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Twitter/X has set a new record for Nintendo Japan, surpassing even the hype for the Nintendo Switch 2. Following its announcement in the March 27th Nintendo Direct, the game's tweet garnered over 400,000 likes. In contrast, the Switch 2 reveal in January received approximately 385,000 likes.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream continues the beloved life simulation series where Nintendo's Mii avatars reside on a quirky island. The franchise began with Tomodachi Collection, a Japan-exclusive title for the Nintendo DS in 2009 that sold over 100,000 copies in its first week. Its successor, Tomodachi Collection: New Life for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, became a massive hit with over 6.7 million copies sold, ranking among the 3DS's best-selling games. This version was later released worldwide in 2014 as Tomodachi Life.

Nintendo describes the new game: "Create Mii characters based on yourself, friends, family—anyone you like—and watch them build lives on a remote island. Guide their relationships and discover the wonderfully bizarre ways these Miis interact. You can even peek into their dreams!"

After the trailer dropped, fans immediately began dissecting its contents for exciting details. The preview showcases plenty to be excited about: customizable Miis, familiar island locales, and unique character interactions. However, one major change stood out: Mii characters now have ears.

This new feature sparked widespread discussion across social media. On Twitter/X, one user hoped it would be included in the Nintendo Switch 2's Mii creator. Reddit comments noted that Miis now look more human, opening possibilities for accessories like earrings. Some fans, however, expressed a desire for an option to revert to the classic, earless design.

Regardless of the ear debate, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is off to a phenomenal start, generating immense buzz. The game is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch in 2026. For more highlights from the March 27th Nintendo Direct, check out our related article below!
