Perhaps you won the office lottery pool. Maybe the bank made an error in your favor. Or you received a sizable tax refund. What will you do with that extra cash?
You could deposit it all into your savings account. Or, you could invest in an advanced, multi-thousand piece LEGO set, assemble it, and proudly display it in your home. It's important to have priorities. And jokes aside, it's also crucial to have fun, even as a grown-up.
LEGO has never been particularly cheap. But especially at the high end, it's more expensive than ever. The company attributes this to its quality commitment: each brick undergoes rigorous testing against gravity, pressure, and anything else an adult or child might subject it to – even human saliva. Combine this stringent quality control with the third-party licensing agreements for LEGO's collaborative partnerships, and the costs quickly accumulate.
The most affordable LEGO set starts around $10. The most expensive one currently available costs over 80 times that amount. Here, for your curious fascination and potential purchase, are the 15 most expensive LEGO sets on the market as of January 2025. Let's hope we won't need to set an even higher price ceiling in the coming months and years. But we probably will.

We built and photographed this set at launch. Barad-dûr is as impressive as it looks, with multiple sliding levels that reveal a library, throne room, dining area, dungeon, armory, and more. The glowing Eye of Sauron atop the model is backlit with a LEGO light brick, and simple mechanisms allow you to open the front doors, reveal a hidden room, and raise the dungeon's gibbet. It represents some of LEGO's finest design work in recent memory.
