A groundbreaking tech demo utilizing Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has been unveiled, offering gamers an immersive journey through a futuristic cyberpunk cityscape. Crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, this project takes inspiration from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visually stunning Blade Runner franchise, and the atmospheric world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was displayed on high-performance hardware, boasting an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM operating at 6000MHz.
This technical showcase is powered entirely by dynamic lighting, demonstrating the prowess of Unreal Engine's Nanite technology, coupled with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, enhanced by Screen Space Reflections. Notably, the demo does not utilize advanced features like Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting—emphasizing what UE5 can achieve with its core capabilities alone.
While the rain effect in the demo may seem slightly artificial, the depiction of wet surfaces is remarkably detailed, enriching the urban environment. However, the experience is marred by frequent invisible walls, which hinder the sense of immersion. Despite the visually spectacular nature of Unreal Engine 5 tech demos, it's important to note that games developed with this engine often encounter performance challenges when translated into real-world applications.
