World of Warcraft's Festive Feast: A Lore-Filled Winter Veil Celebration
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a digital Christmas celebration, returns with new rewards and activities. This year's event is even more special thanks to a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, resulting in a captivating lore video exploring the holiday's rich history.
The video delves into the origins of Winter Veil, weaving together Dwarven myths about Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and Tauren traditions of reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. It also highlights the humorous commercialization of the holiday by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of being kidnapped—three times, to be exact—by pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves, and even the Grinch! The video concludes with a hilarious thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. He's previously created lore videos covering various aspects of the Warcraft universe, showcasing Blizzard's ongoing commitment to community engagement through content creator partnerships. Other recent collaborations include Taliesin & Evitel's guides and Hurricane's cinematic trailers.
Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer (for Hunters), new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift!
