Xbox Developer Direct 2025 Amazes with Unexpected Ninja Gaiden 4 Reveal

Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Double Dose of Ninja Action

The Xbox Developer Direct 2025 delivered a surprise double-whammy for fans of the legendary Ninja Gaiden franchise: the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 and the release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. This marks a significant return for the series, celebrating Team Ninja's 30th anniversary and ushering in "The Year of the Ninja."

A New Generation of Ninjas

Ninja Gaiden 4, developed collaboratively by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, is a direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3, breaking a 13-year silence. The game introduces a fresh protagonist, Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, striving to achieve Master Ninja status.

Art Director Tomoko Nishii (PlatinumGames) describes Yakumo as a character designed to stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the series icon. While Yakumo takes center stage, Ryu remains a crucial figure, serving as a formidable opponent and a benchmark for Yakumo's growth. Rest assured, Ryu Hayabusa will be playable, ensuring fans of the original protagonist aren't left disappointed.

Evolved Combat and Breakneck Speed

Ninja Gaiden 4 retains the series' signature brutal and challenging combat, but adds a new dimension with Yakumo's unique fighting styles: Raven Style and the innovative Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style.

Team Ninja and PlatinumGames are combining their expertise to deliver fast-paced action, blending the classic Ninja Gaiden challenge with PlatinumGames' signature dynamic combat. The game is nearing completion, currently in the polishing phase, with more details to be revealed soon.

Release Date and Availability

Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated for a Fall 2025 release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Remastered Classic

Alongside the Ninja Gaiden 4 announcement, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remake of the 2008 Xbox 360 classic, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, and included with Xbox Game Pass.

This enhanced version features additional playable characters from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, offering a fresh experience for veterans and newcomers alike. It serves as a perfect appetizer while fans eagerly await the arrival of Ninja Gaiden 4.
