Activision has swiftly removed controversial advertisements featured within the loadout menus of Black Ops 6 and Warzone, asserting that the placement was part of a “feature test” accidentally released. Following the launch of Season 4, players noticed ads for weapon bundles embedded in the build and weapon selection screens of both games. These advertisements were unavoidable during the loadout customization process, sparking significant backlash from the community.

Many players expressed frustration, with several calling the move the final straw regarding Activision’s monetization practices. One commenter remarked, “I wouldn’t even mind if this was just in Warzone, a free game, but putting it in a pay-to-play premium title? F**k off.” Another criticized the company for prioritizing monetization over user experience, stating, “At this point, it really feels like opening a mobile game.”

Activision later confirmed the removal of the advertisements via Twitter, explaining that the feature was mistakenly included in the Season 04 update. However, skepticism remains high among fans, with many suspecting the inclusion was intentional rather than accidental.

This incident follows previous concerns over Call of Duty’s monetization strategies, which already include battle passes, premium battle passes, and additional paid upgrades. Players are now watching closely as development shifts toward rumored sequels, particularly a potential Black Ops 2 follow-up, to see whether Activision will revisit similar tactics in future releases.
