Ciri to Lead The Witcher 4: A Natural Choice, Says CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Ciri will take center stage in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, marking a natural and logical evolution in the game's storyline. According to executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega, the shift from Geralt to Ciri as the protagonist is driven by the progression of the game series and the narrative arcs found in Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.

Mitrega pointed out that Geralt's narrative arc was fully realized in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri's emergence. With her significant potential, Ciri's well-developed character in both the books and previous games offers a rich foundation for new creative explorations. Director Sebastian Kalemba highlighted that Ciri's younger age allows for greater player influence over her character development, an aspect that was less flexible with the more "established" Geralt.

Interestingly, the discussions about transitioning the protagonist role to Ciri started nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of her as Geralt's natural successor. Kalemba also mentioned that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri will face will pave the way for an equally epic new saga.

Actor Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has endorsed this shift, highlighting Ciri's substantial potential as a lead character. While Geralt will still make an appearance in the new game, he will no longer be the focal point, thereby shifting the narrative emphasis to Ciri's perspective.
