Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.

This update boasts improved technical performance and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay has been enhanced with shared item pickups and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Network code optimization and improved mod loader capacity (handling over 100+ subscribed mods) round out the improvements.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, stating that the team prioritized making the game enjoyable for a broad audience.

Players will have extensive control over various aspects, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader game mechanics such as tempo, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages or its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
