EA expresses satisfaction with Battlefield's upcoming release following GTA 6's delay, though other developers have mixed reactions. This piece explores EA's perspective on its launch plans and the broader industry response to the GTA 6 schedule change.

EA confirmed Battlefield's release timeline shortly after the GTA 6 delay news. During the Q4 and FY 2025 earnings call on May 6, CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that Battlefield is slated for March 2026, expressing increased confidence due to the shifted launch of GTA 6.
When questioned about major title clashes, Wilson noted that few studios can advance releases to dodge a blockbuster like GTA 6, since accelerating development is notoriously challenging. However, he expressed relief that Battlefield now lands two months ahead of GTA 6, giving it valuable breathing room.

Since GTA 6's initial trailer, developers and publishers have been strategizing around its launch. The recent delay has forced many to recalibrate, but Battlefield finds itself in an advantageous position.
"We've consistently aimed for a window that maximizes Battlefield's potential," Wilson explained. "We won't compromise the franchise's value or our players' experience by rushing into a crowded timeframe."
He described the current launch window as "clearer than before" and expressed optimism about Battlefield's 2026 debut. The game is scheduled for March 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Death Stranding 2 Director Hideo Kojima acknowledged the industry-wide tendency to avoid clashing with GTA 6. However, during a Koji Pro radio broadcast, he confirmed that DS2's release date was locked in long ago and won't change.
Kojima mentioned hearing GTA 6 might launch in November, which would typically cause other studios to reschedule. He compared it to the film industry: "If a new Mission Impossible drops in May, competitors simply move aside."
Despite this trend, Kojima intends to follow DS2's original development timeline, even targeting a September release. With the game reportedly 95% complete, fans can expect it sooner rather than later.

Many developers view GTA 6's release as a critical factor in their own launch success. The Game Business Show reported in March that numerous executives are preparing to adjust schedules around the highly anticipated title.
One anonymous executive stated, "We'll shift our release by about three weeks to steer clear. The challenge is everyone will do the same, creating crowded 'safe zones' just before or after GTA 6 launches."
In contrast, Cult of the Lamb publisher Devolver Digital announced plans to launch a game on the same day as GTA 6. The specific title remains undisclosed, but possibilities include sequels to Cult of the Lamb, Inscription, or Hotline Miami, or even a new IP.
The GTA 6 delay continues to reshape industry planning, with developers either avoiding or embracing the competition. GTA 6 is now scheduled for May 26, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For ongoing updates, check out our coverage below!
