A year ago at the Game Developers Conference, I first encountered Jump Ship, a four-player sci-fi PvE shooter blending elements of Sea of Thieves, Left 4 Dead, and FTL. It immediately impressed me. A recent playthrough with developers confirmed my initial excitement. If any indie game can make a splash in this year's crowded release schedule, Jump Ship is my top bet. Heading towards an Early Access launch this summer, it's more polished and engaging than ever.

For the uninitiated, Jump Ship is a non-grindy space adventure for up to four players. Keepsake Games is actively incorporating feedback, developing clever solo play options. Those who prefer a single-player experience will find AI assistants to help manage the ship, creating a narratively driven solo campaign. This is showcased in the Prologue, which serves as both a tutorial (covering shooting, space suit maneuvering, piloting, and ship combat) and a compelling lore introduction.

Jump Ship's core PvE gameplay is now enhanced by a compelling narrative. A malicious virus plagues galactic machines, and you and your fellow Atirans must journey to the galaxy's heart to stop it. Missions unfold across procedurally generated chains within each sector. Mission lengths vary, from 10 minutes to an hour. The Jump Map color-codes branching paths, indicating the danger level and corresponding rewards.

The Prologue introduces Iris, a non-infected AI who acts as a mission narrator, adding welcome structure to the gameplay. The Hangar serves as your base of operations, where you spend in-game currency on customization, view the Galaxy Map, and even enjoy some downtime soccer.

PlayThe four-player gameplay is exceptionally fun. Missions rarely go as planned. Ship attacks require coordinated responses: one player pilots and uses the pilot's chair weapons, another mans the 360-degree cannon, while others may use mag-boots for hull repairs or external combat. Damage control might involve extinguishing fires with a fire extinguisher. Teamwork is crucial for success.

Once at your destination, you disembark to retrieve the loot, battling infected robots. Grappling hooks aid traversal. One player carries the loot back to the ship while others provide cover.

PlayMy demos, both last year and recently, were brief. This highlights *Jump Ship*'s enjoyable short-burst gameplay. However, I haven't fully explored the larger mission structure and procedural generation to assess its replayability. Despite this, the game shows immense potential. *Jump Ship* possesses all the ingredients for a truly special game, and I eagerly anticipate further playtime.
