Hideki Kamiya, the creative mind behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed a keen interest in crafting a remake of the iconic game. This potential project has sparked excitement among fans, eager to see how Kamiya would reimagine the classic title using modern technology and design principles.
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic games, with notable titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the way. Now, the original Devil May Cry (DMC) might join this prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking it. In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans, discussing potential remakes and sequels. When a fan inquired about his ideas for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically responded, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the project evolved significantly, leading Capcom to transform it into the action-packed DMC we know today. Reflecting on the game's origins, Kamiya revealed a personal story that influenced its creation. He mentioned that in 2000, following a painful breakup, he channeled his emotions into the development of DMC, turning his heartache into a groundbreaking gaming experience.
Kamiya admits he rarely revisits his past projects, including DMC, but occasionally watching gameplay clips reminds him of the game's age and its old-school design. If given the opportunity to remake DMC, he plans to build it entirely from scratch, leveraging today's advanced technology and game design philosophies. Currently, his thoughts on the remake are not fully developed, as he prefers to focus on concrete projects. Yet, he confidently asserts, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."
In addition to DMC, Kamiya has also shown interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, further fueling anticipation among fans of his work. With these announcements, enthusiasts are now eagerly awaiting the possibility of these cherished titles being reborn through Kamiya's visionary lens.
