The iconic Killzone franchise from Sony has been on hiatus for quite some time, but recent discussions have reignited interest in its potential revival. In an engaging interview with VideoGamer for the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone's composer Joris de Man voiced his support for bringing the series back. He acknowledged the fan petitions and expressed his hope for the franchise's return, citing its iconic status while also noting the challenges it faces due to shifts in gaming preferences and sensitivities.
"I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's tricky because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
De Man also speculated on the form a revival might take, suggesting that a remastered collection could be more successful than a completely new entry. "I think a remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he stated. He highlighted the slower-paced, weightier nature of Killzone games compared to other shooters like Call of Duty, and pointed out the infamous input lag issues with Killzone 2 on the PlayStation 3. The series is known for its dark, gritty, and immersive atmosphere.
Despite these sentiments, a recent interview with the Washington Post suggested that Guerrilla, the Sony-owned developer behind Killzone, has largely moved on to focus on the Horizon franchise. However, it's been over a decade since the last Killzone game, Shadow Fall, and the idea of a revival remains appealing to many fans. Whether Killzone makes a comeback or not, fans can take solace in knowing they have at least one more advocate in their corner.
